Harish Damodaran
Harish Damodaran is the National Rural Affairs and Agriculture Editor at The Indian Express, bringing over 33 years of experience in agri-business and macroeconomic policy reporting. His career includes roles at the Press Trust of India (1991–1994) and The Hindu Business Line (1994–2014). Damodaran’s expertise spans the farm sector, macroeconomics, business, and social history. He has authored “India’s New Capitalists: Caste, Business, and Industry in a Modern Nation,” which examines the evolution of India’s capitalist class post-independence. Currently, he is working on two books: one documenting the rise of Hatsun Agro, India’s largest private dairy company, and another on the founder of India’s third-largest industrial house at the time of independence.
In recognition of his contributions, Damodaran received the Gaja Capital Business Book Prize in 2022 for “Broke to Breakthrough: The Rise of India’s Largest Private Dairy Company,” which chronicles the journey of Hatsun Agro and its founder, R.G. Chandramogan. This accolade underscores his ability to illuminate the stories of entrepreneurial success in India’s business landscape.
