Sanjeev Chopra
Sanjeev Chopra is a 1990-batch IAS officer of the Odisha cadre currently serving as Secretary of the under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution. He assumed charge as Secretary on 31 October 2022 and oversees India’s food grain procurement, storage, public distribution, food security, and sugar sector administration.
He began his administrative career as Sub-Collector in Baripada, Odisha, and later served as District Collector and District Magistrate of Koraput district between 1995 and 1997. Over the years, he held several important positions in the Government of Odisha, including Secretary in the Departments of Industries, Agriculture, General Administration, and Home Affairs. He also served as Chairman of Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO), Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha (IPICOL), and Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC).
As Secretary, DFPD, Sanjeev Chopra has been actively involved in strengthening India’s food management system, digitization of public distribution operations, food grain logistics, storage modernization, and policy implementation related to food security and sugar administration. He has also emphasized the use of artificial intelligence and technology to improve transparency, efficiency, and responsiveness across the food supply chain.
