Dr. H. S. Jat is an Indian agricultural scientist and agronomist currently serving as the Director of the under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). He is recognized for his contributions to maize agronomy, conservation agriculture, sustainable cropping systems, and climate-resilient farming practices in India.

In his role as Director of ICAR-IIMR, Ludhiana, Dr. Jat leads national research and development programs focused on improving maize productivity, seed systems, sustainable farming technologies, and strengthening India’s maize value chain. He has actively promoted improved maize hybrids, precision farming, and conservation agriculture to enhance farmer income and support the country’s growing demand for maize in food, feed, and ethanol sectors.

Dr. Jat has been associated with several national agricultural initiatives related to climate-smart agriculture and resource-conservation technologies. His research interests include conservation agriculture, integrated farming systems, cereal-based cropping systems, soil health management, and sustainable intensification of agriculture.
