Santosh Kumar Sarangi is a distinguished 1994-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Odisha cadre, currently serving as the Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for the Government of India. Appointed to the post in August 2024, he previously held the high-profile position of Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), where he was instrumental in shaping India’s modern trade policies. With an extensive administrative background that includes roles in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Education, and various senior departments within the Odisha state government, he is recognized for his expertise in policy formulation and trade logistics. In his current role at MNRE, Sarangi is a key figure in leading India’s transition to sustainable energy, overseeing the nation’s ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and managing the strategic implementation of the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
