Mr. Prashant Banerjee
Mr. Prashant K. Banerjee serves as the Executive Director of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the apex national body representing India’s automotive sector. An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay), he holds a Ph.D. focused on engine combustion research and low-energy gas emissions. With over 30 years of industry experience, Mr. Banerjee provides strategic leadership in formulating technical standards, regulations, and policies that drive the growth of the Indian automobile sector. Prior to his role at SIAM, he held major engineering and compliance positions at multi-national corporations including Tata Motors, Toyota, and Daewoo Motors, where he spearheaded high-profile passenger and commercial vehicle platforms. Beyond his leadership at SIAM, he actively contributes to global safety and regulatory frameworks, serving as the Chairman of the Indian GRSG group representing India at the United Nations (UNECE WP29) on vehicle safety, and working closely with the Automotive Industry Standards Committee (AISC) and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). In his advocacy, he champions sustainable mobility, vehicular decarbonization, road safety, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) to support India’s vision of a cleaner, safer, and self-reliant automotive ecosystem.
